Almost Ready for Roofing

December has been a busy month, but not on the jobsite. The students had their winter break so the house sat idle for two weeks. However, as everyone will see from the pictures below, there has still been lots of progress since our last blog post. The second floor framing is 100% complete including interior partitions. The exterior walls are 95% sheathed. The trusses are all installed with one half of the sub-roof already installed. The remainder of the sub-roof sheathing will continue and be completed this week. We are probably just a couple weeks away from topping off and hopefully we will be able to enjoy a topping off celebration. The project is continuing to go very well and is ahead of schedule. The students continue to work safely and produce quality craftsmanship.

Hopefully everyone had a restful Thanksgiving Weekend. Our building team must have as the framing has been attacked with enthusiasm. Despite the snow and rain and freezing temperatures, the first floor structural framing is 100% complete. Interior partitions remain to be built, however, that did not stop us from moving on to the second floor. As of yesterday, the second floor joists and subfloor have all been installed. Tomorrow the second floor wall framing will begin and will be followed shortly by the installation of trusses from Juneau Truss. The framing was not without its difficulties, with many sore fingers struck by errant hammers, tools lost by falling snow, boards cut too short or too long, or stud spacing not quite at 24" on center, but overall everyone is very satisfied with the progress of the building. Framing is one of those areas of construction that is very fulfilling to the students as there is a very visible result of their labor each day.

With the completion of the foundation, this week the students worked on water proofing the stemwall and started to cut trimmers and assemble headers for framing out the window and door openings in the walls. On Monday, Tyson from Aggpro was kind enough to give the class a tour of the concrete batch plant and explain all the logistics of procuring materials to the plant, mixing, and delivering concrete to the site. Admiralty Construction has been working hard yesterday and today to backfill and install drainage around the foundation. Framing should begin in earnest tomorrow.

Logan explains to Tim the principles on unwinding a long roll of material. The pebble wrap will be fastened over the water proofing and will allow ground water to trickle down to the perforated draining around the perimeter of the foundation.

2011-2012 House Well Under Way

As of yesterday the foundation of the 2011-2012 house is complete. All that remains is stripping of the forms and back-filling and then the framing can commence. Over the past couple weeks:

Admiralty Construction has graded and leveled the site
Footings were laid-out, formed, reinforced, and poured
Stemwalls were formed using insulated concrete forms (ICF's) and reinforced
And yesterday, Aggpro brought out their pump truck and we placed 10 yards of concrete for the stemwall and set anchor bolts for our framing.

Next week a lot of visible progress will be made with framing beginning. The students performed very well on the foundation phase and look forward to next step.

On September 16th, 2011, the house was opened to the community to celebrate the completion of the 2010-2011 house designed and built by students from Juneau Douglas High School. A special thanks to all the individuals from the Juneau and Douglas communities who donated their resources, time, and labor to make the house building program a success. The 2011-2012 house is well underway and will hopefully have the same level of success.

These pictures are from the past two weeks of construction. All the roofing is finally completed including the front porch roof, the south side of the home is completed, all the fiberglass is installed in the stud cavities inside the home, the vapor barrier has been installed in the ceiling, and 140 sheets of dry-wall are ready now for installation. Tomorrow we are having a bbq on-site to commemorate the students achievements and the plumbers should be installing the in-floor heating package. Next week, the dry-wall will hopefully start going up and the class will move outside to work on more gable end siding. Lots more to do!

Grey skies have finally cleared up in Juneau leaving us an opening to have a very productive week! As a team, we shingled half the main roof, put up over 75% of the siding to the south side of the home, finished digging a 2ft trench for the electrical line to the front of the property, caulked more seams, and made strong progress putting up siding to the front of the home. Morale is up as the spring is in full swing and as the house starts to come together. It is encouraging to see what this group of seniors can accomplish before they graduate late May!

This week, we caulked and sided the north eve side of the home and start placing starter shingles on the main roof. Along with siding, we did some pick-up framing installing the upstairs bathroom sliding door, dug most of the trench for the electrical line, installed the exhaust through the carport for the HRV system, and finished installing all the exterior doors. Next week, its on to the South side of the home then finally onto the main roof pending sunny weather.

The plumbers have finished as well as the electricians so now its onto drywall. In regards to the outside of the home, we've been focused on flashing, installing the front door of the home, routing the HRV duct system throughout the home, getting the ceiling prepped for 19" of insulation, finishing off the carport roof shingles, and finally putting up siding, corner boards, and window trim. Next week is looking like all siding and trim outside in the rain. At least we have Folk Fest this week!

Lots to report on after a two week absence. Two weeks ago we had a successful showing at the Juneau home show at Centennial Hall to display and discuss our project to the community and its supporters. A multitude of students participated for the two day weekend event. With regards to the home, all the siding and cedar corner boards are painted and ready for installation which should be just after Spring Break. The front porch roof is now freestanding thanks to the heavy lifting power of a boom truck setting 500lb footers and is awaiting shingles. The plumbers are finished up now after having installed all the drainage pipes, shower fixtures, and copper pipping to the home. Electricians should be on-site shortly after a meeting Monday to discuss schedules. Insulation and furring strips have now been applied to both the north and south gable ends with around 85% of the home now fitted for siding. Finally, Craig Mapes officially filed for retirement today after serving in the district for 20 years. We wish him luck in his future endeavors and thank him for his years of service to the Juneau school district.

This week had lows of -20 degrees with winds of up to 60mph downtown; the office or classroom has never sounded so good before. With that said, we were still able to finish off the east and west side of the home for insulation and furring strips while getting underneath the carport as well. The class came out to the site to inspect our work Tuesday and have been diligently painting away at the shop. Next week is forecast to be upper 20s and sunny. Come on Springtime!

This week a cold front moved through Juneau so most of class time was dedicated to painting the concrete board siding for our home. Brad Austin, our local plumber apprenticeship coordinator, gave the class an informative walk-through lecture on how plumbing works in residential homes on site and on all the science behind it. The SAGA crew started installing the pink foam insulation to the exterior of the home beginning what will become a major task in our near future as a class. After put up furring strips then siding.

This week we were able to finish off the stairs, frame a wall under the stairs, put up and tape off most of the Tyvek, re-frame the kitchen, block the kitchen, staircase, and bathrooms, and put the final touches to the interior rough framing. The plumbers are expected to start rough plumbing the house today so its time for the class to migrate outside of our wonderful dry fit home to the sleet and rain once again. Installing 4" of pink foam insulation to the outside of the home is our next major undertaking.

This week we were able to flash and install all the windows for our two story 1,050sq ft home in Lemon Creek. Today we finished off the carport sheathing and should be able to install the underlayment, weather pending, tomorrow. Getting close to installing the insulation on the outside and looking forward to longer days in Alaska.

We had another short week this week due to MLK day on Monday but we still got a ton done on the house! Window bucks are in, the second course of Tyvek is up, and we should be getting the windows in either tomorrow or Monday. A basic interior floor plan, electrical outlay, stair plan, and kitchen are ready to go as well. The plumbers union will even be out to rough plumb the house early February with the electricians following shortly thereafter. A new class has joined for the second semester of the 2010-2011 year to bring our total to 10 students with 4 of them being new to the class. Lots to be excited about.

We are back at the project after our Thanksgiving Break. Conditions have deteriorated for construction. It is our hope to true up exterior 2nd floor walls and install roof trusses soon. The snow is definately slowing progress. Students are dressing for the weather and have a great attitude.

The first floor joists and subfloor have been built. The site is now being worked on to provide perimeter footing drain and backfill, along with rough in utilities to crawl space. The adjacent lot is also being prepared, making the delivery of the job trailer soon, which will provide storage for equipment and tools.

While the site is being wrapped up, students are busy cutting wall parts in the high school wood shop that are necessary to frame the first floor walls.

Monday: We continued installing the remainder of the flooring throughout the house. Grout was applied to the tile flooring as well.

Tuesday: With the flooring installed, another day of cleanup was definitely in order. We had quite of bit of cut scraps of flooring and cardboard from the cabinet packaging.

Wednesday: Now that the house was clean we began staging a painting station in the garage for the doors. Being that we had to hand paint the doors, we wanted to give ourselves adequate space for working and to allow the doors to dry. We started painting the doors in the afternoon.

Thursday: We continued painting the doors. Although the doors were pre-painted, to give the door a quality finish look and cover imperfections from shipping, it should have an additional coat of paint.

Friday: We continued painting doors doors in the morning and hanging door frames in the afternoon. After having the weekend to dry, the doors should be ready for installation first thing next week!

Monday 7/19-7/23

Monday: The deck floor was completed and railing posts were bolted into place. We now have a deck to sit and eat our lunch on sunny days!

Tuesday: Following a last minute deck design change, the deck railing was completed with a new twist. We used copper piping as vertical supports in place of traditional 2x2 spindles. This not only increases visibility through the deck railing, but adds another unique design feature that is durable and long-lasting.

Wednesday: With the deck railing completed, we focused our attention to interior finish work. The first order of business is a thorough cleaning in preparation for the delivery of cabinets. This cleaning will also help prep for the installation of flooring the rest of the week.

Thursday: Cabinets were delivered in the morning. For most of the day work continued on installing the flooring. With snap-together laminate, once the first row is down work moves pretty quickly!

Friday: A majority of the flooring was installed and some cabinets were set into place. We also laid tile in both bathrooms and the kitchen.

Monday 7/12-7/16

Monday: Levels galore! Today we used levels, plumb bobs and the Pythagorean Theorem to properly position deck posts and beams. Texturing has been completed on the interior and work began on the final coat of paint and the accented ceiling.

Tuesday: With the beams and posts secured in place, we began temporarily setting deck joists in place while painting continued on the inside.

Wednesday: Referring back the the Pythagorean Theorem, we squared up the deck floor joists and secured them permanently in place. We added hurricane clips to provide additional rigidity and structural integrity to the floor joists.

Thursday: We began attaching decking to the floor joists. For the deck floor we are using Sunwood, a pressure treated lumber that has a smooth finish. Traditional pressure treated lumber is stamped with small gouges to allow the treatment to absorb in it and is less visually appealing for flooring.

Friday: Work continued on the deck floor and scaffolding was disassembled as the deck took shape. Painting was completed, which means that interior finish work can begin. A big thanks to Southeast Interiors for a job well done!

Monday: HAPPY 4TH OF JULY! Today we did not work so we could celebrate our Nation's independence.

Tuesday: Today was spent breaking down scaffolding and repositioning it in the front of the house to prepare for building the deck. On the inside, the painters began applying the "texture" layer. Our deck package was also delivered by Don Abel in the afternoon.

Wednesday: Today was a "site cleanup day". We made multiple trips to the dump with wood scraps and trash.

Thursday: In the morning we picked up an extended boom fork lift from Tyler Rental. We needed it to lift two beams in place for the deck. Both beams were pressure treated 4x12's, one being 16 feet long and the other 24 feet long with a combined weight of nearly a half ton!

Friday: Bracing was put in place to temporarily support the deck beams on the front of the house. Additional 4x12 beams were positioned on the South side of the house and all beams were secured using special order heavy duty galvanized brackets.

Monday 6/28-7/2

Monday: Siding was completed on the South Side of the house. Preparations were made so we could begin putting the second coat of paint on the siding.

Tuesday: We began applying the second and final coat of paint on the South side of the house. This will give an additional layer of protection from the elements and help seal the Hardie Plank from moisture.

Wednesday: Painting continued today both inside and outside. Southeast Interiors is using an "airless" paint sprayer to apply paint inside while we use and old fashioned brush and roller technique on the exterior.

Thursday: Painters tape, painters tape, painters tape. Today was spent preparing for trim paint on the South Side of the house. This meant putting up painters tape and using small detail brushes to apply the white trim paint.

Friday: We completed trim painting and spent the afternoon thoroughly cleaning our paint supplies. Southeast Interiors completed interior priming.

Week 6/21 - 6/25

Monday: The trim and siding on the front of the house received an additional coat of paint while work on the siding on the South side of the house continued.

Tuesday: The bird blocks for the South side of the house were primed and painted and work continued on siding the South wall. Inside the house, the drywall received a coat of primer.

Wednesday: We nearly finished installing the siding on the South side of the house today. The French doors were trimmed and half of the bird blocks were installed. On the inside of the house the walls were textured.

Thursday: Most of the day was an office work day, but we did managed to install a few more pieced of siding, paint the trim around the French doors, and do a little priming under the eves.

Friday: We continued to prime under the eves, finished installing bird blocks, and began to apply paint under the eves.

Week 6/14 - 6/18

This week we spent more time working on the outside trim and siding while the drywall finishers worked inside.

Monday: AEL&P installed our electrical conduit from our temporary utility box to the house while we painted trim on front. We also primed some of the trim on rest of house and began installing siding on the back of the house.

Tuesday: More trim was painted on house and the trim for the garage entry door was installed. Finished siding on back. The remaining siding on the rear of the house was installed.

Wednesday: We took care of business at hardware stores for a good portion of the morning, then we headed to the school shop to assembled more trim. We also transported the last of the pre-painted siding from the shop to the house, and partially filled utility trench.

Thursday: Yet more trim was primed and painted, and Dan made a special guest appearance to help us fill the utility ditch further. On the back of the house we caulked the siding around windows and corner boards. The gutter downspouts installation was also finished. On the inside we framed for a plumbing access panel and installed the surrounding drywall. At the end of the day we removed our temporary power post and had the meter permanently hooked up to the house.

Friday: We made, primed, painted, and installed even more trim. A second coat of paint was applied to the siding on the back of the house, completing two of the four sides. The south side of the house had a few starter courses of siding installed. At the end of the day we met with the Land Trust and City to discuss the property for next year's project.

Week 6/7 - 6/11

This week we focused on the exterior siding and trim while Southeast Interiors did the mudding and taping on the drywall inside.

Monday: We began our day by removing all of the drywall scraps from the installation and cleaning up the site. The last of the corner boards were put in place and we dug a trench for our electrical supply.

Tuesday: The last of the siding was painted, while the exterior door and window trim was custom made at the shop. The siding was then moved to the house.

Wednesday: All of Wednesday was devoted to the installation of siding on the North wall of the house.

Thursday: On the North wall we installed the bird blocks, primed all of the bare wood (under the eves), and caulked around the windows and trim. The exterior trim was installed on the West side (front) of the house and a few courses of siding were put in place.

Friday: The trim on the West side of the house was primed and caulked with an addition of flashing over the garage door. More courses of siding were added along with caulk where the siding meets the trim. On the North side of the house we applied white paint on our trim and began to put the second coat of paint on the siding. We also laid out our marks on the remaining two sides of the house to begin the first courses of siding.

Week 5/31 - 6/4

This week was our final week of school, however, the work continues... We were able to hire Dillon through the Job Experience program to continue working on the house into the summer.

Monday: Memorial Day - No school.

Tuesday: We continued painting siding in the high school shop while the Dependable Drywall began the installation of drywall at the house.

Wednesday: Again, our time was spent painting siding while the drywall was being installed.

Thursday: Last day of school - No House Building class.

Week 5/24 - 5/28

Monday: We finished up the ventilation job today by painting a sealant over any seams and joints we found in order to keep air from escaping.

Tuesday: We all did odd jobs today in order to get the house ready for inspection and drywall.

Wednesday: Today we started adding in the interior insulation. This task was made miserable by the fact that we all needed to wear long sleeve shirts and pants, a dust mask, and deal with insulation all on a very warm day. This was also the last day of class for our seniors Chris Budbill and Dan Turner.

Friday: We added in some more insulation and cleaned up the job site.

This week we received a shipment of Drywall and insulation, we also started adding in the ventilation.

Tuesday: We received the shipment of drywall and began moving it into position for the Drywall crew.

Wednesday: We continued with Tuesdays work and then we began to install the ventilation on the second floor.

Friday: We kept working on adding ventilation to the house.

Electrical Work

Monday: We started pulling wires and installing receptacles in the interior framing.

Friday: We finally finished the electrical work and we are now ready to add the siding.

This week we added flashing around the outside of the house, did some more pick up framing, and started the electrical work.

2nd Floor slab

Roofing

Week 4/12 - 4/16. This week we managed to complete the majority of the roofing, and continued with the pick-up framing.

Monday: We continued the pick-up framing from last week, and finally got started on adding the shingles to the roof.

Tuesday: Today we had two new guys from Angoon that were here as part of a career exploration program. They helped us continue our work from Monday.

Wednesday: We finished the first half of the roof and began working on the next side.

Friday: We almost finished adding the shingles, all that's left to do is add the roof cap.

Pick-Up framing

This week we all worked on the finer details of the interior framing. We inspected the whole inside of the house and started preparing it for drywall and other finishing touches.

Monday: we got a short wall built near the stairs, as well as a small linen closet attached to the bathroom.

Thursday: Inspected the interior framing job for anything that could cause the drywall not to fit right. This included checking the walls for their uniformity, plumbness, adding backing where needed, and making sure transitions between studs/plates were flush.

Friday: Started fixing all of the small details that we noticed earlier.

Interior Framing (3/29 - 4/2)

This week we resumed work on the house again refreshed after spring break. In these five days we successfully framed the interior of the entire first floor, as well as adding in the staircase.

Monday: We started framing the non-load bearing partition walls for the first floor.

Tuesday: We resumed the framing, and we are now almost done with it.

Wednesday: We started work on the staircase, we decided that it would have a total of 17 steps at 7 3/8" high and 10 1/2" depth. we got the stair stringers marked out, and one finished.

Friday: We finished work on the staircase by cutting and installing the plywood on it.

Concrete pour

This week we got the garage floor poured. This huge concrete slab covers the entire first floor and has radiant heating built into it.

Monday: We went out to the site and prepare to pour the slab

Tuesday: This was a good day to pour, it was nice and sunny out and we got the whole slab layed down before we had to go. Lucky for us there were no major mishaps and everything worked well.

Wednesday: We added some final furring strips to the outside of the house.

Friday: We took down some scaffolding we had rented from Tyler Rental, and we also got a door installed

Week 3/7 - 3/10

This week we learned about the radiant heating that would be installed in the floor of the basement. We also made the shed ready to be hauled off.

Monday: Today we went to the job site to hear the plumbers talk about the radiant heating system that was being installed in the house. Radiant heating (shown below) works by heating water and then sending it through pipes in a concrete floor, the heat then radiates out of the slab into the house.

Tuesday: We worked on making the tool shed a permanent structure that could no longer be taken apart for transportation.

Wednesday: Finished making the tool shed a permanent building.

Insulation Continued (3/1 - 3/5)

This week we continued to add foam insulation to the house, we have 4 inches of exterior insulation on all sides now.

Monday: We finished making our bird blocks, bird blocks allow us to ventilate the trusses without allowing birds and other nesting animals to live up there.

Tuesday: Today we began adding our second layer of foam insulation on the North, East, and West sides of the house.

Wednesday: We continued to add our second layer of insulating foam around the house

Friday: Went out to the site and cleaned up the job site in preparation for the wind and snow. We also cleaned and inventoried our tools and equipment.

Saturday/Sunday: This weekend was the Juneau Home Show, which we had a booth at. We raffled off a playhouse and talked to the community about our house.

Insulation (week 2/22 - 2/26)

This week we added the outer layer of insulation with pink-board.

Monday: We added a small strip of Tyvek wrap to an upper section of the house.

Tuesday: We started adding the first layer of Pink-board (foam insulation) to the outside of the house.

Wednesday: We conmtinued to add the Pink-board, we have two layers on our south side of the house now.

Friday: Today we stayed at the shop and mass produced bird blocks, which will be used to keep airflow through the rafters.

Windows: Week 2/16 - 2/19

This was a short week, we had Monday off due to it being President's Day, we still managed to get most of the windows in place as well as the garage floor prepped for a concrete pour.

Tuesday: The weatherization crew from SAGA helped us this week. The weatherization crew started installing windows, while we did some groundwork in the garage to make the dirt floor level.

Wednesday: Today we switched, we worked on installing windows while the SAGA crew did groundwork in the garage. We got all but one window installed today, and the garage floor level.

Friday: The weatherization crew was not here today, but we still managed to put the last window in place.

Monday: Day off

Tuesday: finished the last of the Tyvek wrap around the house.

Wednesday: Dug a hole for the subterranean pipe-network in the garage.

Friday: Today we unloaded a delivery of shingles, windows, and pink-board. We also had several new people start working with us from SAGA

Week 2/1 - 2/5

Monday: Today we had a framing inspector come and inspect the house so far, we passed the inspection and can now move on to wrapping the house.

Tuesday: Started to wrap t he house in Tyvek which will help keep out moisture.

Wednesday: Continued to add Tyvek to the house.

Friday: Today we kept adding the Tyvek, but it became more complicated due to the areas needing to be covered being fairly high off the ground.

Interior walls

This week we found ourselves short on man-power since 3 of our workers switched out of the class at semester.

Monday: We worked on finishing of the roof, and adding the last of the sheathing to the outer walls, this involved some very tricky scaffolding work.

Tuesday: Started framing the interior partition walls and continued to finish the last of the exterior sheathing

Wednesday: Continued to frame the partition walls, and put several in place.

Friday: Quickly went through a checklist in order to help the house pass the framing inspection. this included making sure the bottom plates of all the walls were nailed correctly, making sure the sheathing was installed correctly, and double checking the Ice and Water shield.

Tuesday: Started nailing in the sheets of playwood on top of the trusses to create the roof.

Friday: We finished with most of the plywood roofing, and had help from Mr. Bullick with the roof.

Pre roofing

Tueday: Added hurricane ties to the second level, and blocking to both levels.

sub-flooring/sheathing

This past week we finished nailing in the sub-flooring, added wall sheathing, started putting up the trusses, and cut out some windows. (1/4 - 1/8)

-Monday: We started nailing in the 3/4" waterproofed sub-flooring as well as the wall sheathing. We used 1/2" plywood for the walls.

-Tuesday: We finished nailing in the sub-flooring, and continued to add wall sheathing.

-Wednesday: We cut out several windows, and put up even more sheathing.

-Friday: We did some clean-up on the site, built a temporary floor over the stairway hole in the second floor, and several more trusses were put up.

Walls & Trusses

Monday 13th we built the first big wall for the first floor.
Tuesday 14th we put up the first big wall and braced it off for the night.
Wednesday 15th we put up the rest of the first floor walls and braced them to be ready for the roof trusses that were to be sent to us Friday.
Friday 17th we cleaned up the job site before snow fall. Doing so we stacked/organized all the wood beneath the first floor in the back of the garage of the house while the roof trusses were set upside down 0n the first floor braced to be ready to sit all break.

Sub Flooring

This week we began putting in the sub flooring on the second story (12/7 - 12/11).

Monday: We put up the floor joists that our sub flooring will be laid on top of.

Tuesday: Started installing the 3/4 inch plywood as the sub flooring. Started pre-cutting pieces for a small 2 foot high wall that would run the width of the house over the garage.

Wednesday: Some of us built the small wall and had it lifted up and put in place, while the others kept adding plywood for the sub floor.

Friday: We installed our bottom and top plates around the perimeter of the sub flooring so we could begin marking our studs, headers, and interior walls.

First Wall

This week we constructed and raised our first outer wall (11/30 - 12/4).

Monday: We painted on a waterproof coating for our 3/4 in. tongue and groove plywood to keep the decking from soaking up the "Juneau Sunshine."

Tuesday: We moved the waterproofed plywood and some other lumber to the job-site.

Wednesday: We pre-fabricated all the pieces of the wall. Work was rough and miserable due to weather.

Friday: We put up scaffolding in preparation to raise the right wall!

Groundwork

This week we have been stuck at the shop most of the time since the groundwork we need done is being postponed due to icy roads that the heavy equipment can't travel on. (11/16 - 11/20)

Monday: It snowed over the weekend, so we spent this class period moving snow off of the piles of materials we had outside.

Tuesday: We moved the tool shed using 6 inch steel pipes and a pint of elbow grease. After sweeping and shoveling; we worked into the night pushing the rolling shed to its new home 50ft away.

Wednesday: Since we are still at the shop we cleaned up the equipment cage, assembled concrete forms for our deck pilings, and cut and bent re-bar to strengthen them.

Friday: We reviewed blueprints to get a list of materials we would need to cut so we can frame the first floor after the groundwork is finished.

Back to school, back to school...

Insulation

This week we worked on insulating the house. (11/9 - 11/13)

-Monday: We added foam insulation to the sides of the house, the foam is 2" thick, and when added onto the ARXX blocks it gives us a total of 4" of insulation on the outside.

-Tuesday: Added Soprema water proof insulation on top of the foam to keep the water out.

-Wednesday: Veteran's Day, no school.

-Thursday: Added dimple matting on top of the waterproofing.

-Friday: Clean up day, made sure everything was ready for the snow that is scheduled for the weekend.

Stemwall Pour

Week (11/2 -11/6)

Monday: Today we put up scaffolding and added a railing for safety, cut re-bar that would later be placed in the stemwall for support, and made other preparations for pouring the stemwall.

Tuesday: Continued to cut the re-bar, put up some more turnbuckles to help keep the walls in place, put the last of the ARRX blocks on.

Wednesday: We made the Final preparations for the pour, we tied the re-bar inside the wall, tied the blocks down secure, and poured concrete today. Some of our crew stayed later to help finish the pour while the rest left.

Friday: cleanup, made sure our site was all nice and tidy so we could move on to the next step.

Footing and Stemwall

This week (10/26 - 10/30) Happy Halloween!!!

-Monday: We stripped off the forms on the inside of the footing, and we all were assigned our first weekly duties. Devin is the safety foreman, John is the cameraman, Dan is keeping track of weekly progress, and Dillon is keeping the trailer clean.

-Tuesday: We put the ARXX insulating stemwall blocks on the footing, this included adding rebar to the inside for tensile strength.

-Wednesday: We scraped concrete off of forms, built a window frame, and made sure that the ARXX blocks where level

-Friday: Assembled scaffolding, put the window frame in place, and prepared to pour the stemwall.

Footing

Last week (10/21 10/23)

-Wednesday: We poured the footing for the house. Everything went well (no blowouts), and we finished the pour fairly quickly.

-Thursday: Was a grunt work day, we moved materials around to make room for the Arxx blocks and other equipment. We also cleaned the tools that where in the trailer and hit 'em with WD-40 to keep out the Juneau rust.

-Friday: Our 7th member, Kevin, finally joined us today and helped us remove the the top of the forms from the footings so we could start setting up for the stemwall.

-Tyler Rental generously donated a generator to us until the completion of the house.
